  1. I think this shows excessive paranoia on the part of the survey author. They’re convinced your skipping the blanks rather than completing your answer.

    I will imagine for a moment that they are one of my clients and decide not to take this suggestion. (That never happens, right?!) I wonder if a compromise for them would be to first ask you the number of children you have, then ask you to allocate them across this matrix. At least then they know the blanks really are zeros once the total matches your previous answer.

    Nah, this is either lazy scripting or just lack of time. Not that it’s an excuse. Little things, such little things can make or break the resolution to answer honestly and turn it into “I’ll just randomly click through this crap and get my 30 points”.
